HOW DOES SECOND STAR BOOKS WORK?
We offer 3 different subscription plans:

Debut Author Launch Box: a monthly book box focused on helping you find your next favorite author. Each month, you will receive a brand new book by a debut author, paired with an exclusive candle, a woodmark, and an enamel pin. Boxes ship the first week of each month, and you will be billed on the 15th day of the previous month. The first box is charged immediately upon sign-up. 

Second Star Seasonal: a quarterly book box curated to give you the best reading experience possible. Every three months (March, June, September, and December), you will receive a custom-designed classic novel. Each box includes an exclusive candle,  an enamel pin, and other goodies we lovingly create to enhance your reading experience. Boxes ship mid-month, and you will be billed on the 15th of the month before shipping (February, May, August, and November). The first box is charged immediately upon sign-up.

The Monthly Melt: a monthly box for candle lovers. Each month you get a new candle in one of our 9oz glass jars (7oz wax weight). No extras, no drama, just more Bookish Candles for Bookish People. Each month, we hold a fandom battle, where you get to vote to decide what book/show/movie/whatever will inspire the next month's candle. Boxes ship by the 25th of each month, and you will be charged on the 1st day of each month. The first box is charged immediately upon sign-up.

We also offer a single purchase option for the Debut Author Launch Box and Second Star Seasonal - this is a one time purchase and will not automatically renew. It does not guarantee a spot for the next month. The Monthly Melt is available by subscription only.

IF I’M SUBSCRIBED, CAN I SKIP A MONTH?


Yes! You can skip by accessing your account under the “Your Subscription” tab. If you choose to skip a month, you will not receive a box for that given month. You must skip your box before renewals process. (If you wish to skip the December box, you must do so before November 15th.)

We cannot skip your first box in a subscription or single purchases.

ARE THE BOOKS IN THE MONTHLY BOX AND THE QUARTERLY BOX THE SAME?

Nope! The Debut Author Launch Box and Second Star Seasonal are completely different. Books will never overlap between the two boxes. Monthly boxes have Young Adult books by debut authors, and Quarterly boxes have custom-designed classics.

WHEN CAN I SUBSCRIBE?

We keep our boxes open for subscriptions and one-time purchases until we sell out. All monthly boxes purchased are for the NEXT MONTH'S box. (If you subscribe any time during May, your first box will be shipped in June.)

WHAT AGES IS SECOND STAR BOOKS FOR?

Second Star Books choices can be enjoyed by readers 14 years old and older. Most of our subscribers are adult lovers of YA.

WHAT KIND OF BOOKS WILL YOU INCLUDE?

Debut Author Launch Boxes include YA debuts of all genres. The only limitation is that the book has to be an author's first YA. Occasionally, we'll include an adult book if it has super strong YA crossover (and is also a debut).

Second Star Seasonal books are classics.

CAN I BUY ITEMS SEPARATELY? 

The short answer is occasionally. The longer answer is:

Our monthly enamel pin is added to our shop once all the boxes have been delivered. If we have any available, they will be on the website.

We like to keep our monthly candles exclusive to subscribers. That said, we do hold sales a couple times a year to allow you to buy any of the previous box candles. We announce these sales on our social media and via our newsletter, so watch for that. We also have other candles (not from boxes) available in our shop year-round.  

Additional items will be put in our shop on a case-by-case basis. We will always announce on social media when items are available.

CAN I BUY PAST BOXES?

If we have any boxes from previous months available, they will be listed in our shop. Once they are sold out, we cannot restock them, unfortunately.

PRICING, BILLING & PAYMENTS

WHAT DOES A SECOND STAR BOOKS BOX COST?

Debut Author Launch Box: $28.99 + shipping

Second Star Seasonal: $49.99 + shipping

The Monthly Melt: $15 + shipping

The shipping cost depends on the country you are ordering from. Prices may be adjusted to allow for increased shipping rates as dictated by the USPS.  All of our prices are in US Dollars (USD). 

WHEN WILL AUTOMATIC PAYMENTS BE DEDUCTED? 

Payments for Debut Author Launch Box subscription plans are always deducted on the 15th day of the month. Monthly Melt payments are deducted on the 1st day of the month. Second Star Seasonal payments are deducted on the 15th day of February, May, August, and November. Please make sure you have the balance available each month! If the payment doesn't go through, you risk losing your spot. 

***Please note that due to differences in time zones, payments may process in the evening of the day before.***

CAN I CANCEL MY SUBSCRIPTION? 

You can cancel your subscription anytime by logging into your account and clicking on the "cancel" button next to your active subscription in the subscriptions tab. Subscriptions must be canceled before the renewal date in order to not receive the next month’s box. Refunds will not be given for renewed subscriptions. 

WHAT PAYMENT METHODS CAN I USE? 

We accept all major credit and debit cards.

SHIPPING

DOES YOU SHIP TO MY COUNTRY? 

Yes! We ship our Debut Author Launch Boxes and The Monthly Melt worldwide. Currently, Second Star Seasonal ships only within the United States.

HOW MUCH DOES SHIPPING COST? 

Our 2018 shipping costs variate depending where you are from. *Our current shipping prices as are follows:

Debut Author Launch Box:

To the US: $8

To Canada: $18

To the Rest of the World: $25

The Monthly Melt:

To the US: $7

To Canada: $13

To the Rest of the World: $18

Second Star Seasonal boxes ship within the USA for $9.

*Shipping costs are subject to change. Sadly, USPS increases prices on a yearly basis, and therefore we may have to as well. 

WHEN ARE THE BOXES SHIPPED? 

Debut Author Launch Boxes ship during the first week of the month. Please allow up to 72 hours for updates on your tracking code. Second Star Seasonal ships mid-month in March, June, September, and December. The Monthly Melt ships by the 25th of each month. 

WILL I HAVE TO PAY CUSTOMS CHARGES? 

If you are ordering your box to a country outside of the United States, it is possible that you may be subject to paying customs fees - however, this is not always the case. Second Star Books is not responsible for paying customs fees, nor will we place a lower value on the customs form to try to avoid fees.

WHEN WILL MY BOX ARRIVE? 

Boxes within the USA take 2-5 days to arrive. Shipping time for International boxes varies depending on the country you are located in. Usually takes from 10-21 days.

I ENTERED THE WRONG ADDRESS! CAN YOU SEND ME A NEW BOX? 

Unfortunately, no. We cannot resend a new box if a shipping address was entered incorrectly or not updated before time of shipping. You can contact the post office where the box was shipped to and try to recover it through them.

If your address needs corrected before shipping, please contact us at [email protected] and we'll get your correct address in there.

Prior to renewals, you can update your address in your account. Address changes only apply to future orders, though, so if you need a change after renewals, please email.

WHAT IF MY BOX IS LOST IN THE MAIL? 

Please contact us, and we will work with USPS to retrieve your package. If a package is marked as “delivered," Second Star Books is not liable for lost or stolen packages.

US packages: Please contact us if you have not received your package within 2 weeks.

International packages can take up to 3 months to arrive due to customs. Second Star Books is not liable for packages not received within this time frame. If your tracked package has not arrived after 3 months, please contact support at [email protected] and we will work to supply a replacement box or refund. Untracked packages will not be replaced or refunded.  

RETURNS AND SUPPORT 

CAN I RETURN OR EXCHANGE THE BOX I RECEIVED? 

Unfortunately, we can’t offer any returns or exchanges on shipped or purchases boxes.

ONE OF THE ITEMS IN MY BOX WAS MISSING OR DAMAGED? 

We are so sorry to hear that! Please contact support at [email protected]. Include a picture of the damaged item, and we'll get a replacement sent to you.

CAN I GET A REFUND WHEN I CANCEL MY PAID ORDER/SUBSCRIPTION?

Unfortunately, no. We are unable to offer refunds on boxes that have already been purchased.

I FORGOT TO SKIP AND MY SUBSCRIPTION HAS RENEWED. CAN I STILL SKIP THIS MONTH’S BOX? 


Unfortunately, we are unable to offer refunds past renewal date.
